You can check your camera and lens firmware versions on the settings screen (check your camera manual for more). You may also get some new features or capabilities that you might not use today, but could be glad of in the future. Keeping your camera’s firmware up to date is good practice, in the same way that keeping your computer’s operating system up to date is a good idea. In general, we would recommend installing firmware updates for this reason alone. If your camera is working fine and the firmware update doesn’t address anything that affects you, then nothing bad will happen if you don’t install it.īut sometimes a firmware update comes with an alert about problems that might affect everyone, such as image processing glitches or memory card compatibility.
